The Great Books

More added 12/20/2011:

The Giver by Lois Lowry.

Wow, I really enjoyed this book. It was strange. A bit sad, but it makes you think.

Little House on the Praire by Laura Ingalls

This one was kind of boring. But it was a very good example of respectful children, and how to raise kids.

Right now I'm working on: Jonathan Livingston Seagull a story by Richard Bach

This year, I started my journey of reading the classics. One of my goals is to read or listen to 5 classics on each subject. IE: Math, Science, Music, History, etc.

To start out Cami and I read:

Sense and Sensibility by: Jane Austin

I recently finished listening to a book about slavery:

Uncle Tom's Cabin by: Harriet Beecher Stowe (There was quite a bit of language in this book. It was very realistic and pulled at your heart.

I will soon finish listening to a book about two Jewish boys of different sects.
The Chosen by: Chaim Potok (This one is really good, and teaches you a lot about Judism.)

I will soon finish reading a book about music and Talent Education:
Nurtured by Love by Sinichi Suzuki (He came up with Talent Education in teaching young students the violin. He believes you have to develop their character first then ability. He also because that everyone is able to learn and didn't require children to test into his school. He know Dr. Albert Einstien. Learned a lot from Tolstoy, and has a great love for Mozart and Art.

I started Flatland by Edwin Abbot. But I only made it to chaper 3 and was bored so I stopped. Maybe there is a better Math classic...

I'm am listening to Johnny Termain by Esther Forbes. It takes place in 1773 during the Boston Tea Party. It's really good, and is kid appropriate. :)
